NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Defensemen Pickups Feb. 22 – Canucks' Hronek Leads Again, Utah's Durzi Returns - chof 360 news

On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies are rostered in less than 50 percent of chof360 leagues and can be selected in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games.

Noah Hanifin, VGK vs. VAN (59% rostered)

Hanifin was rostered in roughly half of chof360 leagues and he’s drawn a lot of attention since Shea Theodore’s injury. Astute managers have already picked up Theodore’s likely replacement on the Knights’ top power play, and Hanifin had a pretty strong tournament at 4 Nations. Hanifin obviously doesn’t have the same kind of offensive profile as Theodore, but the Knights power play ranks second in the league and Hanifin will certainly benefit from that.

Filip Hronek, VAN at VGK (47% rostered)

Quinn Hughes will not be in the lineup, which means Hronek will be the Canucks’ go-to defenseman once again with PP1 duties. He’s been excellent filling in that role and scored five points in five games prior to 4 Nations. He’s going to play a ton of minutes though this is a tough matchup, especially with Hughes and Elias Pettersson both expected to miss the game.

Sean Durzi, UTA at LA (21% rostered)

Durzi will return to the lineup after getting injured in just the fourth game of the season. He’s a huge piece of Utah’s defense and slated to skate with Olli Maatta at even strength. Utah may elect to ease Durzi back into the lineup, so Michael Kesselring could stay with PP2. Regardless, at his best, Durzi provided a modest amount of points and plenty of blocked shots. He has ROS fantasy value once he gets up to speed and resumes his role on PP2.

Mason Lohrei, BOS vs. ANA (4% rostered)

Charlie McAvoy was hurt at 4 Nations which means Lohrei likely gets bumped back up to PP1. I think Lohrei’s a low-upside offensive defenseman despite the PP1 deployment – he’s just not the type to score points – but sharing the ice with David Pastrnak is always a plus. The Ducks PK is the sixth-worst in the league.
